Australian Preaching in the 80s

A collection of archival footage featuring national TV coverage of ISKCON:

Programs include:

  • Every Town & Village -- Australia: A cable television show produced by ITV in USA. This edition features the preaching activities of the Australian Hare Krishna devotees
  • 7 National News Promo: The Seven Nework News is the most watched national television news service in Australia. Demonstrating how much the preaching of the "Hare Krishna's" in Australia had captured the attention of the Australian public channel Seven News decided to promote their news service with a group of devotees chanting Hare Krishna.
  • Orange People: During the mid 1980s in Australia the preaching of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh's "Orange People" cult became very prominent. And the followers of Rajneesh took on the same dress as the Hare Krishna devotees, wearing saffron dhotis and shaving their heads. But they did not follow any religious principles. This was before the AIDS crisis and they were engaging in group sex and so many other non-devotional practices. And the general public in Australia began to confuse Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh's "Orange People" with the Hare Krishnas. So the Krishna devotees in Australia mounted a media campaign to counter the propaganda of the "Orange People" and their guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. This is an amazing television show.
  • Kindly Krishnas: Hare Krishna Food For Life
  • Alfred Ford Wedding:
  • Hare Krishna World: A television documentary on the development of "Hare Krishna World," a one thousand acre Krishna Farm community in Northern New South Wales situated on the Pacific Highway about one hour's drive from Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland.
  • Food For Life: Hare Krishna Food For Life
